Booking
— Book Online: Booking online enables you to receive a ticket via email, which can be printed or shown on your mobile phone when required for ticket checking.
— Book at Station: You may book a ticket at Nong Khai train station, and it will cost less. However, it may cost you in travel costs, and it takes up useful travel and enjoyment time.
The train options from Nong Khai to Bangkok require you to book in advance for at least 2 hours prior to travel and within 90 days.
Book well in advance, especially if you require a sleeper berth or 1st class.
You can also go along to Nong Khai railway station to book a ticket in advance, which will be slightly cheaper than booking online. However, I had to stay in Nong Khai longer before because the trains were fully booked, which is now avoidable with the online booking option.
Which Train Service?
The most common and best suited for most travellers is the special express 26 overnight service. It’s more comfortable (newer train type), and you can sleep most of the journey.
You may also take any of the other trains that will cost less, and if you wish to view the country by train, then the Express 76 is a great option. Keep in mind that if you’re going 3rd it’s very basic.
Arriving In Bangkok
You will most likely need to arrive at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bangkok) and take other transport from here to your hotel or accommodation. Bang Sue MRT (Underground) station can be accessed from the Central Terminal which takes passengers along the MRT line, to the BTS (Skytrain) and the Airport Train Link.
If you are heading to the Khao San Rd or China Town area then you will need to take the MRT to Hua Lamphong MRT station and then a taxi to your hotel. If you are going to the Sukhumvit area, then the MRT will take you to Sukhumvit MRT station, where you can take onward transport to your hotel via the BTS or taxi.
Taxis and bus services are also available at the Central Train Terminal.

Other Travel Options
If you wish to look at other Nong Khai to Bangkok travel options you may consider getting a minivan or taxi from Nong Khai to Udon Thani, then a flight from Udon to Bangkok airport, or you may take a long-distance bus or minivan straight from Nong Khai to Bangkok.
A flight is the quickest but most expensive, and a bus or minivan takes the longest. The buses and minivans are not as comfortable as travelling by train.
