Wat Pha Tak Suea Skywalk – Temple

Wat Pha Tak Suea is a temple situated within the beautiful mountainous and forest areas of the Nong Khai province in Thailand.

During 2016 the skywalk opened to visitors that’s attracted many foreigners as well as Thai people. The 16 meter skywalk is a u-shaped platform set in the hillside on a cliff edge that’s overlooking the Mekong river with beautiful panoramic views.

This was the second place i really enjoyed visiting on a three part day trip i took before visiting Wat Pa Phu Kon (another 50 km from Wat Pha Tak Suea).

About Wat Pha Tak Suea

Wat Pha Tak Suea is a temple that was a place and retreat for serious practitioners of Buddhist mediation. Now i am not sure how the temple operates its Buddhist traditions and it seems to be much more focused on visitors for the skywalk with the panoramic views of the Mekong.

There is a section just before the skywalk where people can make donations – offerings. It’s up to you if you make a donation as the skywalk is free to visit.

The u-shaped skywalk itself is not really that high (good for me), however, how it extends from the cliff edge makes it perfect for viewing the vast open space of the mountainous area and the magical Mekong river.

You will need to put something on your feet (the glass can be roasting hot), and hopefully the mini flip flops provided fit you.

Down The Steps

Another part of Pha Tak Suea has a great viewing section and steps down a rocky cliff face where it feels quite cool and very moist because of the forest. Down the steps is an shrine section with Buddhist statues.

Worth Visiting Wat Pha Tak Suea?

It’s quite a distance from Nong Khai city but a great day trip if you enjoy panoramic views of landscapes.

If possible i would include a visit to Wat Pa Phu Kon (as i did) which makes the trip much more worth while. It’s another 50 km drive that takes just over an hour and a unique place not to miss if given the opportunity to visit.

Getting There & Other Info

It’s about 80 km in distance from Nong Khai city and takes approximately 1.5 hours to get there. The roads when we went was clear and easy, and the temple/skywalk was not too busy. I’m sure the weekends would be much more busier so it would make sense to go during the week.

Open: I noticed a sign stating the skywalk was open from 09.30 am – 16.30 pm, daily.
Address: Pha Tang, Sangkhom District, Nong Khai 43160.
