Amanta Hotel Nong Khai – Excellent Value

The Amanta Hotel in Nong Khai is perfectly suited for those that prefer a modern place to stay with a sort of condominium feel to it. Many aspects of this hotel make it a great and affordable place to stay in Nong Khai.

Amanta Hotel

This place was first on my list to stay while I was on this Nong Khai visit and it turned out to be a really good choice.

I was concerned about the location of Amanta from the main riverside promenade (about 1 km) initially. I rented a motorbike for 200 THB a day that the hotel arranged for me (no extra charge from them) which got delivered to the hotel that made getting to and from the hotel easy.

The hotel also rents bicycles if customers require them. Without transport it’s a bit far to go into the main town area walking.

Hotel & Facilities

Everything about Amanta hotel is very modern and like a condominium complex setting. Parts of the hotel downstairs are used for conference meetings.

As soon as I walked in I was greeted by staff and helped with the luggage. The lounge area was comfortable and I was provided with a cold drink. Good start Amanta!

Just past the reception and lounge area is the rear of the hotel with places to sit outside and an attractive water feature. The restaurant for breakfast is also within this area.

Breakfast
The restaurant where breakfast is served and the food are both great. Breakfast is buffet style with cereal, fruit, eggs & toast, and really good Thai options. I mainly eat Thai food at these buffets as it is always better than the western options.

Coffee Shop
There’s a small coffee shop within the hotel area near the reception. I did not have the time to test out the taste of the coffee, unfortunately.

Rooftop Bar & Restaurant
If you fancy a beer or glass of wine then you can head up to the rooftop bar/restaurant after 4pm. They serve Thai and some western dishes which I did not have the opportunity to try. Great view here at sunset.

Wifi: The wifi had a pretty good connection inside the room, when I was connected to it. Not 100%, but pretty good. The big issue with it is having to keep logging in and if you’re staying for a few days you will need new log in details every day.

Rooms

Room options include superior twins and doubles, deluxe king and family sized rooms.

The rooms are very clean, comfortable, well equipped (including a safe, fridge, TV – Thai, and tea or coffee), and have a balcony area. The rooms are fairly large in size – especially the bathroom. The room I stayed in was a superior double that cost 1300 THB. Nothing at all to complain about and worth the 1300 THB.

Staff & Service

The staff was very helpful and polite as soon as I arrived. Needed assistance with an issue and they came to the room to assist and were very helpful. Communicating in English and with part of my Thai language skills was challenging, but we got there eventually, and I am used to this in Thailand now.

One thing would have been nice is to offer me a room to check in earlier which wasn’t offered. I arrived at 7.30am and could not have a room until 2pm. I’m sure a room could have been prepared for me earlier than 2pm. Although I am aware of the rules regarding check in time, these things provide added value to the service when customers are put before the rules.

It will always be difficult at times in hotels in Thailand like this when communicating in English with a staff member. Some will speak better English than others. Try and find a person that communicates well in English if an issue arises that needs attention and communication is not good with the staff member.

Overall – Suitable For….

Overall I liked everything about this place and was very satisfied. Location is good with transport, even if just renting a bicycle.

Many hotels like this may have a swimming pool which would be a nice addition to Amanta hotel, but the seating and relaxing garden area was more than good enough to keep me happy.

Compared to the prices and standard of hotels in Nong Khai this is in the mid-range. It’s not a backpacker or budget type of place, which can be found near the riverfront. This sort of hotel in Bangkok for the superior room would cost around 2000 – 2500 THB.

Most people staying here were Thai that was possibly visiting family or friends in Nong Khai or here for business. There were also a few westerners staying, but mainly Thai people.
