Wat Phra That Chedi Khlang Nam is located at the end of the Nong Khai riverside promenade on the Rim Kong Alley. It is a small Buddhist Stupa for worshipers to visit, pray and make offerings.
Just before the Phra That Chedi, also known as Phra That Nalong, is the sunken Chedi that is said to have sunk into the Mekong River some 150 years ago. There is not much to see of the sunken Chedi, but when the water lowers you can see the top.
Getting there: It is easy to find along the Rim Kong Alley (riverfront). Opposite the large Naga Heads monument is Wat Lam Duam and then further up is Phra That Chedi.
Before getting to the rebuilt Chedi you should see the sunken Chedi.
While it’s not the best of Nong Khai attractions or temples it’s worth taking a look if you are walking or riding a bicycle along the Rim Kong Alley riverfront.
Also, while it’s not best tourist attraction, for many Thai people of Nong Khai the sunken Chedi and of course the replacement – Wat Phra That Chedi Khlang Nam, are places and objects of Buddhist worship.
Along the riverfront promenade there are other temples (Wat Lam Duan), restaurants, the Naga heads monuments, Tha Sadet Market, and other places to visit, so just add Phra That to the pleasant Nong Khai Mekong riverfront walk, cycle or motorbike ride.
Early morning or ‘sunset’ is an absolute must – and the best time to check out and enjoy the riverside.
I’m Jonesy. The one responsible for whole lot of things including having this Thailand site up and running. I first arrived in Thailand in 2008 and being a web developer it made sense to create a website and write some stuff about my second home. Enjoy your travels!
