Super Rich is well known as the go to place for the best money exchange rates in Bangkok. I’ve used them a number of times and always got the best rate possible.
I have a trip planned over the border to Laos in a couple of days for a night or two and while passing near Silom I decided to pick up some US dollars for ease of entry and to avoid ATM costs etc.
About Super Rich
SR is one of the oldest bigger money exchanging establishments in Bangkok, established 1965. There are a couple of other companies and websites using the name Super rich but this one is identified as Super rich international and the shops/exchange booths are orange in color.
There are a number of branches in Bangkok. Some will only buy foreign currencies while others, the main shops – buy and sell. When stated they only buy, means they will only buy your foreign currency in exchange for Thai baht.
Important: Bring you’re passport. They will take a copy.
Silom Branch
I’ve used the Silom and main branch at Ratchadamri Rd (near Chit Lom BTS station) and both have the same process. Both can also get quite busy, especially between 11.30am – 2.00pm during the week.
The three step process. 1) Hand your passport in at the desk and they will ask the currency required then give you a copy of your passport to hand to the next desk. 2) The next desk will look at your photocopy and provide you with a number to wait for your counter number to be called.
On this occasion it was about 2pm and not very busy.
3) I sat and waited for about 5 minutes to get served at the dispensing counter and received the usual friendliness and helpful service from the cashier.
Exchange
I only needed 70 USD for my Laos visit and had Thai baht to exchange. The cost was 2486.40 THB which was exactly the same as XE.com, the company I always check currency exchange rates with online.
Most definitely hard to beat Super rich rates and they offer much better than the banks and some of the smaller companies. A decent size exchange will save or give you a useful few notes extra.
