Most trains other than the ordinary type require you to book tickets in advance for at least 2 hours prior to travel. Thailand train tickets can be booked 30 days in advance and 90 days for longer trips.

High Season: During the high tourist season Nov – March you should try and book well in advance to avoid the disappointment of train unavailability.
Booking
— Book at Station: You may book a ticket at the train station and it will cost less. However, it may cost you in travel costs and it takes more time.
— Book Online (below): Booking online enables you to receive a ticket via email which can be printed or shown on your mobile phone when required for ticket checking.
Train Options – Which Train Should You Book?
Trains from Hua Hin vary in the times they take for the journey until arriving in Bangkok. They take from 4h-40m to 5h-58m to get there.
— Travellers might want to take train 38 (departs 07:09 – arrives 12:05) if arriving in Bangkok in good time for their hotel check-in is important, but you don’t wish to leave too early.
Or,
— Take train 40 (departs 16:23 – arrives 20:30), if travellers wish to spend the day in Hua Hin and head to Bangkok slightly later.
Or,
— *Train 262 (no booking required) which is the ordinary train (departs 14:30 – arrives 20:30) that cannot be booked in advance. Ordinary trains only have 3rd class seats and cost under 100 THB, and while it is not the most comfortable ride, it’s an experience with the locals.
Seating Options
Some trains have 1st class sections and sleeper berths which will cost more. There are 2nd class (most popular) air conditioning, and 3rd class options (fan only) available, and there is no need for 1st class or a sleeper, really.
The third class is something some travellers like to experience which I have done just for the travel experience. It’s a bit of a rough ride but an experience all the same, and it costs less than 100 THB.
Arriving in Bangkok
Most travellers will need to arrive at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bangkok station). There are other stations such as Bang Sue; however, most travellers are going to need to arrive at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal.
Get yourself a plan together for onward transport before you arrive in Bangkok to avoid any potential problems. Taxis are available with meters at the rear side of the train station and bust stops.
Other Transport Options
The train is not the quickest way to get from Hua Hin to Bangkok and not the cheapest, but it is safe, enjoyable and a good travel experience to have in Thailand.
A cheap and quicker option for BKK is travelling by a bus or minivan. The minivan station in Hua Hin is located 1km from the centre on Soi 51 or they can be booked to pick you up from the hotel or guesthouse where you are staying.
You can also travel by bus to Bangkok or another bus service to and from Suvarnabhumi airport.
The fastest option, most comfortable and hopefully safer than taking a minivan or bus is to go by taxi. Taxis cost around 2200+ THB and it takes around 3 hours to get there (220 km approx.)
I’m Jonesy. The one responsible for whole lot of things including having this Thailand site up and running. I first arrived in Thailand in 2008 and being a web developer it made sense to create a website and write some stuff about my second home. Enjoy your travels!
