Park & Pool Resort Nong Khai

Park and Pool Resort in Nong Khai is an oasis within the city and has the feeling of being away at a resort on one of Thailand’s beaches. Much to like about this place – apart from the location for some travelers.

 

 

I first stayed here in 2011 and only realized it was this place that I had stayed at previously when I arrived on this trip to Nong Khai . It ended up a pleasant surprise and well worth staying a night, and half a day.

Location

Location for some will be an issue if they need to go into Nong Khai city (3.5 km) and do not have transport. You will need to rent a motorbike, bicycle or the reception can call you a tuk tuk. Transport in Nong Khai is cheap, easy and convenient.

If you have a train journey planned then you couldn’t get any closer to Nong Khai train station than this place.

I took the overnight Nong Khai to Bangkok train after staying here. The train does not leave until the evening so I asked if i could pay for half a day (600 THB) and check out at 6pm, and the hotel owner agreed it was fine (if the rooms are full this may not be an option). If you don’t need a room for half a day or they’re fully booked for the day they will allow you to keep your luggage with reception and you can use the pool and eat at the restaurant.

Rooms

There are standard rooms and bungalows/villas available at Park and Pool. They also offer triple rooms for families, wooden villas and what is called a Thai family house (5 adults can sleep).

I have stayed in the standard room before and on this occasion a double bungalow. Both was suitable and reasonably priced for the room standard. The bungalow was really peaceful and nice not to have neighbors directly next door.

Bed was comfy, everything very clean, plenty of space, a fridge inside + TV (no English channels) and wifi (wasn’t very good).

Would like to see a kettle in the room for hot drinks, but hot water and a cup was available in the restaurant area.

Hotel & Facilities

The garden area, pool and restaurant are all great. It’s peaceful and has that holiday resort feeling about it.

Restaurant
I ate at the restaurant on a few occasions and really enjoyed the food. I mainly eat Thai food so I can’t comment much on the international dishes, although I did have a burger that was quite good. Most of these places I would stick with Thai food……Thais cook Thai food better.

Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is a fair size with a kids smaller section and showers. It’s a nice relaxing area with sun loungers available.

It was very busy (too busy for me) when I arrived on the Saturday which I found out was because people also come there and pay 70 THB to swim and use the area for the day (don’t stay in the resort).

Breakfast
Breakfast that comes with the room booking is inside a really huge hall at the front. The breakfast is pretty basic, especially for westerners. If you can eat Thai food for breakfast like me you’ll be fine, if not, it’s egg or jam on toast for you and a coffee.

Staff & Service

Overall the staff are quite friendly and helpful. The young lad went out his way to find me paracetamol which was really kind of him.

There may be times some people could have communication problems with the reception staff, but this is something I experience in many places around Thailand and I am accustomed to it and have no problems (even if they don’t understand me speaking in English or Thai language).

I met the owner and his wife and they was very friendly. It was good to see them giving attention to how the place was running.

Overall – Suitable For…

Park & Pool resort in Nong Khai is a kind of unique tranquil resort setting with a pool that’s worth staying at if you have or can get transport. It’s next to the railway station which might suit some travelers that want a place near the station and somewhere that is relaxing.

There is a nice balance of foreigners and Thai people that stay here which I personally like. Ideal place to bring the Thai wife or girlfriend. and family.
