Macky’s Riverside Kitchen is perfectly situated on the Nong Khai promenade of the Mekong river. This is likely to be why it attracts many customers and the food is farang (foreigner) friendly.
I visited here a few years ago and a couple of times on this visit. The restaurant has changed owners and the present owner is very friendly and helpful.
Restaurant & Service
The restaurant is perfectly located on the riverfront and close to many of the guesthouses and hotels. There’s a small section inside and seating outside then on the night tables are placed next to the riverside. Great place at sunset for dinner.
Service is good and friendly.
After chatting with the owner it’s clear she want’s to make sure customers are happy and listens to any feedback. I mentioned i did not like the masaman curry very much because the sauce was very thick (should be more watery). She did say it’s made for how farang like it (which is true), but i like Thai a food how Thai people have it.
Menu & Food
The first time on this trip i ate at Macky’s i stopped off here for breakfast before cycling. The breakfast was ok and cost around 120 THB. Better than a couple of others i tried in Nong Khai.
On the evening i ate the masaman curry i was not keen on as mentioned, somtam (papaya salad) and another stir fried vegetable dish. The somtam and stir fry was very nice (didn’t take photos, sorry).
There are western dishes on the menu and plenty of basic Thai dishes you would expect to see at a restaurant geared towards tourists.
Prices are reasonable and what i would expect which is in the cheap range. You can eat here from around 70 – 300 THB a person.
Nice place to stop off during the day for a coffee or a beer, actually.
It’s the location and friendliness that makes this worth a visit for me.
